What’s Up With The Rise In Unsolicited & Guilt Email ?

The economy isn’t great by any stretch of the imagination. Everyone is feeling the economic impacts these days and people are doing what they can, or need to, to survive.

This includes the business for staffing and direct placement agencies.

When the economy takes a negative hit, one of the first things to slow with any business is hiring. Companies go on a “freeze” or “pause” or “insert your own term here that tries to make everyone feel better”, but it happens all the time. Recruiters and Sourcers always get nervous when these business decisions happen because this is exactly why they are hired and now the volume just isn’t there.

And this goes for the third-party recruiting world as well.

During these slower times, sales representatives from the third-party recruiting world increase their cold calling and cold emails into businesses. And what to they want? They want 15-minutes of time to explain how they provide the best service and always have the perfect candidate to share!

All from reading a job description, these companies always know exactly what the business is seeking.

I get it, the “perfect candidate” is a great way to try and get a foot in the door.

But there is always something that makes it worse. And that is the follow up emails that strive to make me feel terrible that I am not taking time from my busy workload to send them a reply or give them a return call.

You want me to feel bad that I am not following up with you on your unsolicited email into wanting to help me with my work? When I receive this email, not if… because in today’s world I will most certainly receive it, but when I receive this email, this is the absolute message that will ensure you do not hear back from me. I will not work with you, partner with you, or recommend any business for you.

Understand the ramifications of such a message before you send it. Or just cross me off your list.
